Day 149: I almost didn’t have a post tonight

I’m not sure what happened, but after I created a card and tried to post it online for you to see it, I couldn’t find my blog online.

For some strange reason, Safari couldn’t find my blog.

I almost went to a panic wondering if someone hacked my blog. I mean, hackers are out on cyberspace destroying innocent people’s lives because they have nothing better to do with their time and are losers. I mean really, why in the world would you be so rude and take someone’s personal information without their knowledge and permission to make a few lousy dollars which by the way…can easily be destroyed with water, scissors, and fire. As the old saying goes, “What goes around, comes around.”

And if you’ve been hacked and had your personal information stolen, I’m sorry for your loss.

So at the moment I can’t remember what I’m supposed to be writing about.

Oh wait! I’m supposed to be writing about a Thank You card.

Anyhow, today’s card is inspired by Kim Kardashian West and Kayne West.

I know, I know what you’re thinking. How could I find inspiration in those two characters?

Well, as I was getting started working on the card I happened to see a picture of Kardashian West in a Yahoo! photo wearing white, so it reminded me of a card you’d receive after attending someone’s wedding. So, it’s more of inspiration from a wedding perspective as opposed to them as a couple.

Here it is!

Day 147: It’s just a normal Thursday

The sun is shinning. It’s humid outside, and it’s Thursday.

Only one more day until the weekend begins.

Yeah!

Day 146: Surprises happen when you least expect it

I hate surprises!

Who came up with the idea of surprises needs to hide out before I find them because I do not like them.

However, on the flip side, I did have a nice surprise today.

On a really rare night when we all have a moment, I had dinner with my family. It’s literally been months since we’ve done a family dinner and it was a nice surprise.

Growing up, someone once gave us the idea that anyone in the family at anytime could call out “family night” and we would have to drop what we were doing and have dinner together. It didn’t matter where we went, usually whoever called “family night” got to choose the restaurant, and then we would spend time together eating and talking. It was a lot of fun and when my brother had kids, we included them too.

I normally don’t join in family night much anymore mostly because my schedule is so busy and I work nights. But when my schedule allows it, I try to make time.

And I surprised myself with another surprise when I actually sat down and wrote an article tonight.

For the past four years, I have been writing three columns for the Examiner.com: LA Marketing, Jobs and Small Business Examiner. My schedule has been so busy and I haven’t had the energy to write an article until today. And in case you’re wondering what qualifies this graphic designer as a writer, well I hate to break it to you but I do have a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.

So, I have plenty of writing experience under my belt.

I’ve written for my college newspaper, yearbook and radio stations, and the copy for several client’s projects.

But my passion still is art and design.

Here is today’s card.

Day 145: It’s been a somber day

Today I found out on Facebook that my second cousin passed away.

I knew her health wasn’t good because she was fighting a battle that she couldn’t keep up with.

I learned from some random posting on Facebook that she passed.

She wasn’t even gone 24 hours before the news was blasted online by friends, not family. Her family hadn’t even have time to process the loss, or get a chance to let the rest of the family know what happened.

I won’t be going to the funeral because there will not be one as she requested to be cremated. I’m not sad, upset or angry, just very disappointed that I had to learn the news on Facebook.

She had a horse that she loved dearly and passed away a few months ago. She didn’t take it well.

There are no words you can say to me as I know the truth.

I look forward to seeing her smiling, happy and healthy in paradise.

Yes I can design more than Thank You cards

If you’ve been following my blog, or have breezed by out of curiosity as to what it’s all about, thank you.

You’ve also probably been wondering if I can design anything else besides a Thank You card.

Well, the answer is, “Yes, I can!”.

I’ve been a graphic designer and production artist for over 16 years, and I even have experience designing and developing websites from the ground up for clients.

This blog is just one way I’ve decided to keep up with my creative juices between client projects. And yes, my schedule is open and available for any new design projects so if you need something designed for print or web, just let me know!

So, now you’re probably wondering, “What can Stacy create?”, and that is an excellent question.

I specialize in branding your company’s identity from print to web.

I have created the following items:

Here’s what a few of them have said about my work.

“Stacy Schilling is a rare breed of designer: she sees every job as a consistent whole rather than the sum of its parts. Her ability to think through the entire design to production process—along with her structure and organizational skills—were instrumental in assisting our Creative team to do likewise. Stacy is a tangible asset to any business.”

Mike Pirone, VP/Account Director, YesDesignGroup

“Stacy did a great job on the CHAMPIONS promotional materials. Her professionalism, ability to stick to a strict deadline, and creativity in fusing multiple ideas together were just a few of the qualities that impressed us with her work. Stacy took the ideas, often very opposing ideas, and blended them into a format that appeased all members of the staff and have proven immensely effective with our clients.”

– Brad Lupien, Co–Owner, Champions

“It’s a gift to work with a graphic artist who not only listens and imitates design concepts, but also contributes and improves them with fluid precision and creativity.”

– Julie Munjack, Shadowbox Keepsake Gift

So if your marketing materials need a fresh, update or you don’t have a website promoting your company, then drop me a line and let me know what your project needs are and I’d be more than happy to help you achieve your business and sales goals.

Day 144: I think I’m on a brief sugar high

Earlier today, it was beautiful and the perfect weather for being outside. And then the humidity kicked in and drained the life and energy out of me.

I was out and about running around town and slowly my blood sugar dropped to the floor. By that time, all I wanted to do was eat something and take a nap.

However, it is perfect pool weather.

As much as I would like to lay out by the pool today, I have dinner plans with friends in an hour and the pool is too crowed today with everyone being off since it’s Memorial Day.

I do have pool plans tomorrow and I can’t wait because it’s going to be a great day to be by and in the pool. Woo Hoo!!! 🙂

Anyhow, I came home and ate a bowl of chocolate ice cream (my favorite flavor is Rocky Road – you know the kind with the actual nuts and marshmallows in it) and my sugar levels hit the roof!

I was so wired up that I swept the kitchen floor, vacuumed the living room rug, emptied the dishwasher (I hate to unload it and put everything away. Sometimes I’ll leave the clean dishes in there for a week before I even make the time to unload it because I’m too lazy – at least they’re clean dishes!), started a load of laundry, and now have finished a Thank You card.

Yeah! Yeah!

See, something good has come out of my sugar high.

Okay, okay. Now it’s time for today’s card which is inspired by a bed. Not my bed, but one is saw online with lots of patterns and colors.

I don’t know who’s bed it belongs to, but if I had that bed, I’d never sleep! The patterns and colors are definitely not soothing or calming enough to put me to sleep.

Drum roll please…

Ta da!
