Day 179: Good days can keep inspiration going

I’ve had a good day so far and the energy has carried over into my work.

When I don’t feel well or have a rough day, my energy is lousy and the last thing I want to do is design, anything for that matter.

Today’s design is inspired by color combinations and patterns I’ve seen in wallpaper, on business cards, and even in furniture. A little bit of everything, more or less, has really got my creative juices flowing!

Day 178: Keep creating work even when tired

I am dead dog tired tonight.

I was doing some reading earlier and fell asleep for about five minutes because my body and mind are just too tired to keep going.

However, my creative juices are still going strong and I needed to capitalize on them before I conk out tonight.

So, here’s my card for today.

Good Night.

Day 177: Find your mojo and keep it going

There are times as a designer I have no energy to work on a project for myself or a client. But then there are the rare occasions when I find my mojo and just take off!

However, when my mojo starts running at full speed, it’s hard to make it stop and I end up designing practically all night because the ideas keep coming.

Today, I feel like designing for a few more hours because the ideas are coming. So, I’m going to get back to my design work, but first let me share with you today’s card.

Day 176: Get out your camera and just shoot

I’ve recently become addicted to Instagram.

I looked into using the app on my iPhone a while back, but didn’t see a need for it until I found a job posting for Instagram photographers. In order to be considered for the job, you had to have an Instagram account and follow the business.

So, I reluctantly signed up for the free app and service.

It took me a few minutes to get familiar with the program, but now I’m hooked!

Although I’m a artist first then designer, photography is right up my ally. I once took a photography class in college where we went Ireland for two weeks. The whole premise of the class was to take photos while we got to tour Ireland, and then come home and make a scrapbook. I got an ‘A’ on my scrapbook and in the class. Anyhow, I wasn’t a photo student. I was a graphic design student and I took the most photos in the class, over 1,800 photos in two weeks! Crazy huh?

Here are some of the photos I took today.

But today’s card is not inspired from my photography adventures. Instead, I found inspiration in a can of soda pop because of the color combination and retro style.

Here it is!

Day 175: Find inspiration in someone else’s work

I love looking at other artists and designers work for inspiration.

It could be for a color palate, typography, design style, or just something that catches your eye and makes you do a double take. Plus it helps get the creative juices flowing if you’re stuck for an idea on where to begin.

Today I was stuck for an idea, but after looking at several other designer’s work, I found my inspiration.

So here is today’s card.

Day 174: I want to be a part of it New York, New York

I’m an LA baby, but I think I should have been raised in New York.

My dad and grandfather were originally from New York. My grandfather grew up in Brooklyn, and my dad was raised in the South Bronx. So technically I have New York blood running through my veins, but I know it’s just not the same.

But if ever met me in person, you would definitely mistake me for a New Yorker! I’m loud, outgoing, speak my mind, and love life.

I guess I got the best of both worlds, on opposites coasts!

Although I do love New York, my heart is still in LA.

Okay, let me tell you my inspiration for today’s card. I was watching The Next Great Baker (I’m a sucker for a good reality cooking/baking show because yes, I love to cook and bake. I’m a food junkie what can I say?) and the first episode had a new twist from previous seasons. The contestants, in pairs this year, had to travel to a New York destination and find inspiration for their cake challenge. The contestants went to cool places like Bryant Park, Harlem, Central Park, the Bronx, and even Washington Square. Then they had to come back to the bakery and design a cake based on their inspiration.

Now, I’m no professional baker, but some of the cakes had really great design work while others, let just say that they could use some practice and improve their decorating skills. However, each cake design brought out their own perspective on how the designers saw New York from their eyes.

So, today’s card is inspired by New York and is part of the city series I started way back when with Paris.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll have a different New York design, who knows?

Day 172: Summer time living is easy

It’s getting hot out there and I feel like I’m melting away. It was so hot this morning that my contacts were sticking to my eyeballs and fogging over that it made it hard to drive.

Beside the hot weather, life is pretty good so far.

Anyhow, I did manage to create a card much earlier in the day than I planned.

Here it is inspired by wallpaper.
