Day 209: Keep looking and you will find it

Yesterday I had mentioned that I felt as if my creativity was running dry. Well, it’s doing much better today as it didn’t take long for me to be inspired for today’s card.

I was watching an episode of Restaurant Impossible that I had tapped last night, and the interior designer, Tanya, created a warm, modern vibe for the restaurant. She used yellow, gray and white in the design of the space for a more cohesive vibe, since the previous design lacked any personality or color. She used bold, graphic elements throughout the restaurant, and you know how much I’m a sucker for bold, graphic elements that I had to put them into a card.

So, using their design as inspiration, I put my own twist on today’s card.

Let me know what you think.

Day 208: Plans change, do something else

Yesterday my plans had changed at the very possible last second, so I have to use my time wisely on other things so it doesn’t go to waste.

It was kinda of weird being home tonight when I’m usually tutoring a student, but I managed to survive.

These days people just don’t seem to have enough time in their schedule for anything, including a break from the hectic days of life. So, if you ever find yourself with extra time on your hands or, your plans had changed unexpected, do something else that can either relax you and bring you joy. Or, start a new project.

Anyhow, I feel like my creativity is running slightly dry this week, so it was a stretch to put together today’s card. It’s inspired by an outfit, specifically a black turtleneck and pink tulle skirt. I was drawn to the color combo and the structure of the shirt and the softness of the skirt. I tried to recreate the outfit into a card with my own twist.

I hope you like it.

Day 207: Prepare for the unexpected

When life gives you lemons, you have to find a way to make lemonade and now I have to figure it out how to do it, pronto.

Every week I tutor a student in how to use the program Photoshop Elements and I also teach my student how to do photo retouching and make color corrections. My student is eager to learn and is really starting to understand how the program works. Plus, they are progressing really well. Unfortunately for me, my student is out of town and we won’t have tutoring session tomorrow, which means I won’t earn any income. 😦

This is kind of a big bummer for me because I have bills that are due, and I’m praying that my paycheck next week will cover it all. I highly doubt it, and I still have to put gas in my car and go grocery shopping, again.

It will all work itself out, I just don’t know how yet. But, I’m going to stay positive and not let it bring me down.

So, today’s card is NOT inspired by lemons. Instead, it’s based off a dress from the 1950s. I had the card already created before I got the text message from my student.

Anyhow, here is my card and I need to go to bed, it’s well past midnight!

Day 206: A request has be made and granted

When I posted the Thank You card for Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago, someone requested that I create one for Cincinnati.

So I did.

For a few minutes, I couldn’t figure out which icon would best represent the City of Cincinnati. The city has three bridges that connect it to Northern Kentucky, and I had already designed a card with a bridge, The Brooklyn Bridge for New York. I really didn’t want to create another card with a bridge as the icon in it.

After looking at several photos, I chose to use Union Terminal located on the westside of the Queen City.

The architecture is amazing inside and out, and there are so many cool things to see and do there. Last year, Union Terminal hosted the Dead Sea Scrolls and I just had to go. I’m so glad that I went because it was an amazing experience I will probably never see again in my lifetime. The exhibit was beautiful and full of historic facts.

Since Cincinnatians are HUGE Bengals fans, I had to use orange in my card. And the statement after Thank You – Who Dey is a Cincinnati saying native to locals.

So, this card is especially designed for my friend, Gina.

Who Dey!

Day 205: Make a decision and stick with it

The weather is probably the most indecisive thing God has created on the earth. It wouldn’t necessarily be so indecisive if mankind would stop ruining the earth, which is why the weather can’t make up it’s mind half the time.

One day it’s hot, sunny and very humid, while the next day can be cold, gray, and rainy.

Today’s weather is a little more complicated than that. It’s humid and gray with rain. Thunderstorms and lightening even made their appearance today. Of course, around here there is a say, “If you don’t like the weather, wait 10 minutes.” If only I could have LA weather year-round I’d be so happy.

So sometimes it can be hard to make a decision in your life for personal or business reasons and stick with it. Often we can become indecisive and wonder if the decision we made is the right one. After weighing the pros and cons, just pick one decision and stick with it. Don’t be like the weather where you can’t make a decision because it’s too hard.

Anyhow, my card for today is inspired by the weather. At the top of the card, the sun and blue sky is trying to peak out from the dull, gray rain that’s been coming down from the sky off and on all night and day.

Think of the design as a peak of sunshine about to come into your life.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Day 204: Use the weekend to relax

For most people, the work week begins on Monday and ends Friday. However, for everyone else and myself, there is no beginning or end to the work week.

Since I work at least five days a week, and half those days are on the weekend, I don’t have a regular weekend.

And that’s okay.

It’s always beneficial for your health, sanity and family to use part of your weekend for something relaxing to rebalance your life. It could be anything that you personal enjoy and makes you happy. For me, sitting in front of the T.V. for 15 minutes is relaxing. I also used part of my weekend to get some errands done.

Anyhow, I’m getting off the subject.

So, let’s talk about today’s card which is inspired by a living room and furniture. The living room was done in shades of warm gray and had this cool retro vibe. I decided to use the color palate and the idea of mixing several patterns into one design.

Here it is!

Day 203: Good friends are hard to find

We will never have the opportunity to choose our blood relatives, and that’s okay.

However, we can choose our friends and cultivate them into long-term friendships that last for years, even decades.

Sometimes it’s hard to find a good friend, but when you find that person or persons, don’t let them go. Friends are great for listening, bouncing ideas, giving rock solid advice, and accepting you just as you are.

I had a rough afternoon and couldn’t speak to my friend about it until after work. After my friend listened to what was bothering me, I got some great advice to think about before I decide how to proceed. I am so thankful for all the wonderful friendships with people I have cultivated around the world. I wouldn’t trade one of them in for someone better, because in my eyes, they are already perfect in their own way.

So, today’s card is inspired by a typography image, and I added the additional lettering based on how I was feeling from earlier today.

Day 202: Learn when your body needs rest

Yesterday I ran myself ragged all day, literally. By the time I got home around 10:00 p.m., I was too tired to even sit on the couch and crash with some T.V. shows I had tapped on the DVR box.

When I finally was able to peel myself off the couch, it was midnight and I was dead tired. There was no energy left in me to even attempt creating a card.

Apparently my body was telling me that I need to slow down and rest before I tackle anything that could drain what little energy I had left. So the new plan is to listen to my body more and get as much rest as I can, when I can get it. I just don’t like missing a day to create and post a card. 😦

Obviously, I didn’t have any energy left to give. Sorry no card yesterday.

Anyhow, I am still very tired but I did manage to create a card for yesterday and today. Yeah!! 🙂

Yesterday’s card is inspired by my friend Justin’s dress shirt and tie. We were at a meeting this evening, and Justin had on this electric, bright blue shirt with a stripped tie filled with green, yellow, white, pink, orange, and navy blue. As I was sitting through the meeting, I couldn’t stop staring at his shirt because the color caught my attention. I was distracted by the color, not Justin.

As for today’s card, it’s inspired by an outfit and packaging. The outfit consisted of a Chevron coral clutch purse with a sea foam green bow, a coral blouse, and a sea foam green blazer and accessories. The packaging aspect came from an episode of watching Buddy’s Bakery Rescue staring Buddy Valastro from the hit show, Cake Boss. Anyhow, during the episode, Buddy was trying to help two sisters, owners, of an artisan bakery reach that level to draw business back into the bakery. In the makeover of both the store and products, Buddy showed the owners how to package some of their products in mason jars tied with tags. I liked the idea of the tags from the show, I incorporated the image into today’s design.

So, here are the two designs.

Day 200: Good association can bring refreshment

Tonight I entertained a house of guests with a small dinner party. There was no special occasion, rhyme or reason, I did it just because.

It was nice to have a night off of work and put aside every distraction to focus on good company and food.

I feel so relaxed and refreshed, and am ready to conquer the day – starting tomorrow.

Yes, it’s necessary to work hard to keep bringing in that cash in to pay those bills, but it’s even more important to find joy in life. We can’t work 24/7 and it’s not healthy.

Plus, your brain needs time to rest before you come up with the big idea. For me, the rest equals to rejuvenating my creative juices to continue designing more Thank You cards.

Which brings me to today’s card. It’s inspired by a social media infographic.

Social media infographics are all the rage on the Internet. Basically, they’re a narrow, long graphic filled with statistics, colors and images. You can have an infographic for just about anything. Companies are using them to capture online viewers attention to their products or services.

Now, I don’t have enough stats for an exact replica of an infographic, but I wanted to start working with the colors and layout for when I am ready to create one. I just might create one for a Thank You card at a later time.

In the meantime, here is today’s card.

Day 199: Make time for the more important things

Today’s card isn’t going to be very exciting or creative tonight because I’m trying to clean my house and prepare for company tomorrow.

I’m having some friends over and my house is a wreak! There is no way I’m letting these people into my home without a proper deep clean.

So, I’m taking a break to create and post my card before I finish up and head to bed. It’s already after midnight here and I’m getting tired, but there is still so much to do.

But I am making time for the important things in life like cleaning my house and creating a card.

Okay, I need to go now.
