Day 202: Learn when your body needs rest

Yesterday I ran myself ragged all day, literally. By the time I got home around 10:00 p.m., I was too tired to even sit on the couch and crash with some T.V. shows I had tapped on the DVR box.

When I finally was able to peel myself off the couch, it was midnight and I was dead tired. There was no energy left in me to even attempt creating a card.

Apparently my body was telling me that I need to slow down and rest before I tackle anything that could drain what little energy I had left. So the new plan is to listen to my body more and get as much rest as I can, when I can get it. I just don’t like missing a day to create and post a card. 😦

Obviously, I didn’t have any energy left to give. Sorry no card yesterday.

Anyhow, I am still very tired but I did manage to create a card for yesterday and today. Yeah!! 🙂

Yesterday’s card is inspired by my friend Justin’s dress shirt and tie. We were at a meeting this evening, and Justin had on this electric, bright blue shirt with a stripped tie filled with green, yellow, white, pink, orange, and navy blue. As I was sitting through the meeting, I couldn’t stop staring at his shirt because the color caught my attention. I was distracted by the color, not Justin.

As for today’s card, it’s inspired by an outfit and packaging. The outfit consisted of a Chevron coral clutch purse with a sea foam green bow, a coral blouse, and a sea foam green blazer and accessories. The packaging aspect came from an episode of watching Buddy’s Bakery Rescue staring Buddy Valastro from the hit show, Cake Boss. Anyhow, during the episode, Buddy was trying to help two sisters, owners, of an artisan bakery reach that level to draw business back into the bakery. In the makeover of both the store and products, Buddy showed the owners how to package some of their products in mason jars tied with tags. I liked the idea of the tags from the show, I incorporated the image into today’s design.

So, here are the two designs.

Day 200: Good association can bring refreshment

Tonight I entertained a house of guests with a small dinner party. There was no special occasion, rhyme or reason, I did it just because.

It was nice to have a night off of work and put aside every distraction to focus on good company and food.

I feel so relaxed and refreshed, and am ready to conquer the day – starting tomorrow.

Yes, it’s necessary to work hard to keep bringing in that cash in to pay those bills, but it’s even more important to find joy in life. We can’t work 24/7 and it’s not healthy.

Plus, your brain needs time to rest before you come up with the big idea. For me, the rest equals to rejuvenating my creative juices to continue designing more Thank You cards.

Which brings me to today’s card. It’s inspired by a social media infographic.

Social media infographics are all the rage on the Internet. Basically, they’re a narrow, long graphic filled with statistics, colors and images. You can have an infographic for just about anything. Companies are using them to capture online viewers attention to their products or services.

Now, I don’t have enough stats for an exact replica of an infographic, but I wanted to start working with the colors and layout for when I am ready to create one. I just might create one for a Thank You card at a later time.

In the meantime, here is today’s card.

Day 199: Make time for the more important things

Today’s card isn’t going to be very exciting or creative tonight because I’m trying to clean my house and prepare for company tomorrow.

I’m having some friends over and my house is a wreak! There is no way I’m letting these people into my home without a proper deep clean.

So, I’m taking a break to create and post my card before I finish up and head to bed. It’s already after midnight here and I’m getting tired, but there is still so much to do.

But I am making time for the important things in life like cleaning my house and creating a card.

Okay, I need to go now.

Day 198: Rest can and will rejuvenate you

After so much needed rest, I feel rejuvenated and ready to conquer the world.

Only if I don’t have to get up early. I am so not a morning person (groans).

Since I let my body rest for a while, I feel so much better and have been breezing through my daily tasks. Life is so much better after some much needed rest.

So you have my permission to take a break, however long you need, and step back from life briefly to rejuvenate yourself.

Okay, onto the card!

It’s inspired by my hair straightener. I have naturally wavy hair that does not like the water or humid weather here. If I don’t manage my hair, I look like I have an afro on my head and my hair frizzes (I can tell when it’s going to rain by how my hair reacts after I straighten it.). Now, I’m not putting down afros in anyway. They can be so beautiful on people who have the right hair to wear them. I for one cannot wear one so don’t ask to see mine this summer.

Anyhow, almost every day I have to use a hair straightener to control my wavy hair in humid weather. But today when I looked at it lying on my bathroom counter to cool down before I put it away, I was inspired to create a card based on it.

My hair straightener is nothing special. It’s turquoise blue with white speckles, and it can make my wavy hair stick straight.

Here is today’s card.

Day 197: Take a break when you need it

Last night after I posted a card, I got ready for bed and read a book.

I was so tired last night that after I put my bookmark inside, I fell asleep!

Apparently I was so tired that I forgot to put it on my nightstand and turn off my bedroom light! I woke up at 5:30 a.m. to use the restroom and couldn’t figure out why there was a book in my bed and how my room got so bright!?!?!?

I can’t believe that I was too tired to even turn off the light, and the sad part is that I didn’t even notice it.

So before I head off to work later, I’m taking a much needed break by relaxing and getting this card done early. I don’t want to come home too tired to design one, so I thought I’d get it done now.

Since I only have a few more minutes of my break, let’s get on with the card.

Today’s card is inspired by San Francisco. I haven’t been there in years, but there is a place at Fishermans Wharf called Boudin Bakery which has the most incredible sourdough bread I have ever tasted, except for the bread that is served for breakfast at The Original Pantry Cafe in downtown LA on 9th and Figueroa (which could probably be from Boudin Bakery). Anyhow, I love, love, LOVE sourdough bread and everyone I know that goes there for a trip never brings me back a loaf. Gosh, I could so go for a piece of their sourdough bread smothered in butter. Mmmmm…now I’m starting to get hungry for some!

Anyhow, another cool site to see and experience in San Fran is Lombard Street. It’s the most crooked street in the world! It is a one-way street with eight sharp turns. It’s a must see and experience for tourists.

So, today’s card is inspired by San Francisco and the famous Lombard Street.

I did have a request for Cincinnati, but I’m holding off on that one until I can figure out which icon to use in the design.

And yes, today’s card is part of the retro card series.

Day 196: I’m in a hurry to get to bed

I’m running out of energy and all I want to do right now is go to bed.

So, this is going to be a short, fast post.

Today’s card is inspired by a skirt and jean jacket.

Day 195: Going back to Cali, Cali

I wish I was going back to Cali!

I miss LA so much that it hurts. I love, love, LOVE the weather there – and today it feels like an LA weather day. There are so many one-of-a-kind restaurants that I miss eating at such as The Original Pantry (my ultimate favorite place for breakfast!), Dinah’s, Don Antonio’s, Lemonade, and so many others that I could literally eat my way through LA!

Surprisingly enough, I am not overweight by any means. I’m actually very petite, but I have a great appetite for good food and LA has it all. Even food trucks!

Anyway, my inspiration for today’s card comes from LA because I was at work talking to someone who lives in San Diego (I like S.D., but it’s not my favorite compared to LA.) and she got me a little homesick for all the wonderful things I miss about LA. Like the beach, not having to deal with freezing, cold snowy weather, great shopping, and so much more!

So, since I was in a LA kind of mood and the weather reminds me of LA, why not create an LA card for the retro card series.

Remember, I have one for Paris, Sydney, New York, London, and Pisa, Italy. And now one for LA. I’ll probably have more cities for series, but I’m not sure which one I will do next.

In the meantime, I have only thing to say, “I Love LA”.
