Day 351: Eleven more days until the end

Just 11 more days until the end of this design challenge, and I’m ready.

It’s been exciting to push myself as a designer in creating a Thank You card every day this year, but it has been hard with family losses, and other things getting in the way.

Anyhow, let’s get onto today’s card because I have to get ready for work tonight.

Today’s Thank You card is inspired by a dress because I liked the whimsical design of the flowers. So, I tried to replicate them into a card.

Here it is.

Day 333: Keep moving forward as deadline appears

My deadline for this Thank You card design challenge is appearing to be a lot closer than it was yesterday, but I determined to keep moving forward until the very end.

I wish it was today because there are other creative projects I want to focus my attention on.

I’m addicted to knitting, and someone told she made an infinity scarf in an hour last night while watching T.V.. So, now I can’t wait to get paid again and drop some money at one of the three craft stores near my house to pick up more yarn, beads, and of course, ribbon so I can finish my necklaces.

Lately, I’ve been in a crafting kind of mood.

I still love graphic and website design, but I’m just ready to rotate my creative juices around so I can remain inspired for the next design project when it comes my way.

Anyhow, I do have a Thank You card finished for today and it’s inspired by an outfit, specifically a top and skirt. I loved the color palate and just turned the outfit into a card.

Day 291: Tired and hungry, good night

I’m tired, hungry and going to bed.

Today’s card is inspired by soap packaging.

Good Night.

Day 278: Tired and exhausted but not defeated

I’m tired, exhausted and ready to crash before I go to bed, but I’m not defeated.

I managed to get today’s card done way before my deadline. Yeah! 🙂

Without further explanation, it’s inspired by a watercolor painting and here it is.

Good Night.

Day 275: Never gonna give up

I only have five more minutes until my deadline has passed for today’s card, but I did it!

I didn’t give up, but pushed ahead to design one.

It’s inspired by a cupcake. Food can be very inspirational, and make a person very hungry.

I was drawn to the details in the cupcake’s fondant and decorations, so I recreated them in a card.

Day 273: The countdown is over and still going

You’re probably wondering if my title for today’s post makes any sense, and it does, but to me.

See, I had a countdown going on for my trip to see the show, Dirty Dancing, tonight.

I was pretty excited when I saw on the schedule that I did not have to work tonight and I scored a ticket to the show for tonight’s performance! Hot dog! 🙂

I’m looking forward to my evening out despite the rain.

As regards to the other countdown that’s still going on, that refers to my Thank You cards. I have done (and tried really hard) to design and post a Thank You card everyday this year. It hasn’t been easy, but I have kept on moving along with determination and fight. Plus, it’s turned into a habit that I can’t break just yet. And don’t ask if I’m going to do something like this again next year, because at the moment, I just don’t know. There have been good and bad things about doing this design challenge and blog, and I’m just not yet sure if it’s worth my time, blood, sweat and tears. Or, if I should just stop.

Guess we’ll found out next year.

Anyhow, onto the card which is inspired by calendar blocks.

Years ago, a good friend gave me a set of calendar blocks and I change the date every day. It’s a habit so I know what day it is, but don’t ask me the name of the day because I woke up today thinking it was Monday. Go figure.

Anyway, someone actually made their own from scrapbook paper and numbers and I really liked their design. So, I morphed their design into a Thank You card for today. It’s got a retro / shabby chic / country kind of vibe all rolled into one. I can’t really explain the design concept, but I’ll show it to you instead.

Day 269: Good things come to those who wait

Ah…the joys of cultivating patience can be tough for some people to deal with.

I used to be terrible with patience, but over time, I’ve come to just let it all go and stop worrying about people and things I cannot control or change. So lately, my patience has paid off as I’m starting to see good things happening in my life. Lots of small good things happening right now, and soon maybe a BIG one.

So, if you have a hard time cultivating patience or it seems like the good things are on a delay, don’t panic. Just hold tight a little longer until the timing is just right.

Anyhow, today’s card is inspired by Kameron’s dress. I was out and about with my friend Hazel and she brought along her two-year-old granddaughter, who is cute as a button by the way, and she had on this pretty pink, green and white dress. I was immediately attracted to the colors and design, and felt that I could recreate it into a card.

Here is my version of her dress on a Thank You card.

Day 252: Remain positive when change is hard

For man people, change can be one of the hardest things to deal with.

Cats hate change.

People shouldn’t hate change. Instead, they should embrace it but the hardest thing for people when dealing with change is the unknown and end result. The journey can be the most frightening because you have no idea how it will turn out.

Today’s design has nothing to do with change. And no, nothing in my life is changing, at least not yet. Anyhow, my card is inspired by a sweater and purse. I really like the color combination of mint green, tan, and the gray I added for depth. I wanted a card that looked a cross between retro and girlie.

Day 237: The inspiration is in the art

Today’s inspiration comes from toilet paper roll art. Wait…get your mind out of the gutter people.

It’s not what you think.

Anyway, I was looking at the new pins on Pinterest for inspiration and came across a picture of toilet paper rolls that had been turned into an art piece. The artist created a string of flowers out of the rolls and it got me inspired to create my own flowers. So, using the shapes, I recreated the flowers myself and instead of keeping the flowers as an outline like the toilet paper rolls were, I added color to my flowers. I chose a nice pretty peach color because I didn’t want to use the obvious: red or pink. I thought peach would be a nice compliment and look prettier.

I wanted the card to be feminine (sorry guys), something that you could use as a Thank You card for after attending a wedding.

So, let me know what you think.

Day 214: Stop and smell the roses

Summer is almost over and that means most of the country will soon experience the changing of the seasons. So there is a very limited window to stop and smell the roses while enjoying the last few weeks of summer and warm weather before the cold comes back and takes over.

It also means that the holiday season will be here before you know it.

Anyhow, today’s card isn’t necessarily inspired by summer flowers, but a floral top tier cake as seen on an episode of “The Next Great Baker”.

I’m a food junkie and as I’ve told you in the past, I love to watch cooking and baking shows. The shows provide a sense of inspiration in the kitchen, and my design studio.

In the elimination challenge on the show, the remaining contestants had to complete in one hour a floral top tier cake and the least favorite design resulted in one team going home.

So I wanted to create my own floral card based on the elimination challenge, but put my own spin on it.

Here it is!
