Day 365: At last, how sweet it is

At last!

This is my final and last post of the 365 Days Thank You Card Challenge and I’m so happy it’s FINALLY over! 🙂

Don’t get me wrong, but I’ve enjoyed pushing myself as a designer for an entire year and it hasn’t been easy. I’ve never made myself do something like this, and it was hard at first, but got much easier as time went on. Some days I found my inspiration right away, while other days I was almost beating my head against the computer desk to come up with an idea.

You have to understand something about creative people.

There is no way to turn on creativity like a light switch. You can’t flip a switch and expect something creative to flow out. Creativity takes time and happens when you least expect it. It cannot be forced or rushed. There’s a process behind it. You have to go away from what you’re supposed to be doing, and find something else to occupy your time. When your mind isn’t thinking about the design, then the ideas will start to flow like a bowling ball rolling down the ally. First the ideas start out slow, and then the momentum picks up and things are whizzing right by you. Soon you have so many ideas coming out your head that you can’t stop it. It’s like when I volcano finally erupts. It just bursts into the air and there’s nothing that will stop it. The same when creative has finally kicked in.

However, now that I’m putting this design challenge to bed, I can focus my attention on other things in my life and hopefully, more client projects.

I love being a designer and creating something out of nothing for my clients. It’s a cool process to stare at a blank page on the computer only to find out later that you’ve created a finished product that either seen by billions of people online or something you can touch and feel with your hands. I wouldn’t trade what I do for anything else, but it’s what makes me, me!

As for the Thank You card designs I’ve created all year, some I love and others I wish I could have done something different.

Here are a few of my previous favorite cards:

Day 352: The last double digit day

As the countdown to this design challenge comes to an end, I realize that today is the last day it will be in double digits.

We officially have 10 days left of 2014, and that means only 10 more days of Thank You cards.

I’ve gotten so used to designing these Thank You cards everyday, that I have no idea what’s going to happen at the first of the year when I don’t have to design one.

This design challenge has become a habit, a good one for that matter, but it’s a habit that started out rough and now has become ingrained me in.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see what next year brings.

Anyhow, today’s Thank You card is inspired by an infographic.

Good Night.

Day 342: Only 20 days until I’m done

Woo Hoo!!! 🙂

Only 20 days left with the design challenge and then I’m done. I am so excited I can’t wait because like I’ve said before, I’m ready for a new challenge and I want to work on other creative projects.

Anyhow, today’s Thank You card design is inspired by Pantone’s Spring 2014 collection. It was the layout and the colors that caught my eye. So, I recreated it into a Thank You card.

Here it is.

Day 341: I’m too tired to think

I’m too tired to think today.

I fell asleep in the car (no, I wasn’t driving), and woke up more tired. I would have taken a nap, but I had a phone call scheduled at 5:30 p.m. that didn’t happen, and now has been postponed until tomorrow.

So, all I’m going to do right now is post today’s Thank You card which is inspired by a web design graphic.

Good Night.

Day 336: Make use of your free time

Today I woke up with every intention for getting some stuff done, but that changed when I woke up later than I expected.

Apparently I was so tired that I overslept!

I didn’t even remember turning my alarm off this morning. Usually I turn it off and fall back asleep for another 30 minutes because I am NOT a morning person.

The 30 minutes turned into a hour! So, I decided to cancel my morning plans and go back to sleep for another hour, which turned into two and a half hours.

I think that was my body’s way of saying “Stacy, you really need to rest. So, just go back to sleep and have a lazy day doing whatever you want.”

And I did.

With my free time today I decided to design a Thank You card instead of waiting until the end of the day when I’m probably going to be exhausted from doing nothing.

While trolling Pinterest for design ideas, I found some new fonts that I didn’t have on my laptop. So, I added them to font collection and was inspired by a web graphic for today’s Thank You card. I loved the color palate of soft blue, pink, green, and orange and how the graphic used different font faces for the text.

Taking what was already created in the graphic, I put my own twist on it using the same color palate but arranging the boxes differently in the layout. I also used two new fonts that I downloaded earlier in the design.

Here it is.

Day 294: Get outside and see the world

I did not, I repeat, I did not forgot to create a card yesterday.

After nine hours with no food in my body, I became pale, sick and gotten a horrible headache. When I finally had a chance to eat something, I did feel a little better, but my body had gotten so tired that I had to cancel my evening plans. I was in bed at 7:30 p.m., and way too tired to design a card.

I woke up feeling much better, and the headache was gone. So, today I spent some time outside and experienced the beautiful warm weather and saw the trees covered in leaves changing colors. There were lots of trees that still had green leaves on them, but many trees had leaves that turned shades of red, orange and yellow. You should have seen some of trees with yellow leaves. They were gorgeous! That’s probably the best part about fall I enjoy. After that, it’s all downhill.

So, I have two cards to share with you today. The first is from yesterday and it’s inspired by branding, and today’s card is an abstract inspired by fall.

I hope you like them.

Day 280: It is not a beautiful day in the neighborhood

It’s raining right now. Actually, let me clarify it for you…it’s pouring down buckets of water. It’s gray, dark, gloomy, cold and wet outside, and I’m inside wearing my nice warm pj’s because I don’t have to work today!

Woooo Hoooo!!!!! 🙂

This is the second Friday in a row that I did not have to work, and I’m really happy about that.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my job, but I’m running on burn out mode and having a Friday night off allows me to relax and get things done.

It’s only 7:00 p.m., and I feel like I accomplished a laundry list of things even though I haven’t yet.

Anyhow, let’s move onto the real reason why I’m writing this blog post: The Thank You card.

Today’s card is inspired by branding. It was the rainbow colored letters that lured me into the design and sparked my idea for my card.

So, without further hesitation, here it is!
