Day 365: At last, how sweet it is

At last!

This is my final and last post of the 365 Days Thank You Card Challenge and I’m so happy it’s FINALLY over! 🙂

Don’t get me wrong, but I’ve enjoyed pushing myself as a designer for an entire year and it hasn’t been easy. I’ve never made myself do something like this, and it was hard at first, but got much easier as time went on. Some days I found my inspiration right away, while other days I was almost beating my head against the computer desk to come up with an idea.

You have to understand something about creative people.

There is no way to turn on creativity like a light switch. You can’t flip a switch and expect something creative to flow out. Creativity takes time and happens when you least expect it. It cannot be forced or rushed. There’s a process behind it. You have to go away from what you’re supposed to be doing, and find something else to occupy your time. When your mind isn’t thinking about the design, then the ideas will start to flow like a bowling ball rolling down the ally. First the ideas start out slow, and then the momentum picks up and things are whizzing right by you. Soon you have so many ideas coming out your head that you can’t stop it. It’s like when I volcano finally erupts. It just bursts into the air and there’s nothing that will stop it. The same when creative has finally kicked in.

However, now that I’m putting this design challenge to bed, I can focus my attention on other things in my life and hopefully, more client projects.

I love being a designer and creating something out of nothing for my clients. It’s a cool process to stare at a blank page on the computer only to find out later that you’ve created a finished product that either seen by billions of people online or something you can touch and feel with your hands. I wouldn’t trade what I do for anything else, but it’s what makes me, me!

As for the Thank You card designs I’ve created all year, some I love and others I wish I could have done something different.

Here are a few of my previous favorite cards:

And at last, the final Thank You card in this design challenge.

Thank you all for being a part of my journey to become a better designer.

Day 355: Wow…the time is really flying by

I can’t believe we only have seven more days left of 2014 and soon everything will start over.

Except for this design challenge. Stick a fork in me…I’m done.

Here is today’s Thank You card inspired by a business card.

Day 339: Make someone happy by fulfilling their request

I had a request yesterday for a Thank You card, and I’m fulfilling it today.

Someone made a comment that I should create a card in 12 languages as opposed to 12 different fonts.

So, I accepted the challenged and fulfilled their request.

Here is today’s Thank You inspired by a request.

Enjoy!

Day 338: Stay motivated until the very end

This design challenge is slowly coming to an end and I’m trying to stay motivated so I can finish on time.

Since I’m so ready for bed, I’m going to cut to the chase and get right today’s card which is inspired by a font graphic.

I found 12 new fonts on Pinterest today!!! 🙂

I’m not sure how I will rotate them in my work, but it all depends on what I’m designing and when it’s appropriate to use them. So, I decided to use all 12 of them in today’s Thank You card. I mimicked today’s card off of how the new fonts were displayed in the graphic.

Here it is.

Day 335: Less than 30 days until the end

I am ready to be done with this Thank You card design challenge.

I’m running out of steam, and I just want to use my time for other projects.

Since the end is almost here, I’m trying not to slack off and keep moving forward with new card creations. However, I just want to be done with it all.

I’m ready for a break.

In the meantime, I’ll settle for sleep.

Today’s card is inspired by a bakery’s branding. I loved the color palate of pink, soft pink, black and white and the mixed use of fonts in the logo identity. I also liked the swirl design around the text because it was just different.

Here’s my version in a Thank You card.

Day 328: A day off equals a slow start

Today is Thanksgiving, and that means I don’t have to work!!! Wooo Hooo!!! 🙂

So, I took advantage of my day off and slept in. I didn’t get up until 12:15 p.m., and it felt great!

I am NOT a morning person by any means. If you don’t believe, just ask my parents.

Even though I get up almost every day at 7:00 a.m., you would think my body would be used to getting up early and adjust.

You are so wrong! Night owls will never be morning people, so don’t try to force us to become them. Creatives are creatures of habit and we function better working with a lot of background noise (either T.V. blaring from the living or jamming to our favorite radio stations on Pandora), and usually wake up around 2:00 p.m..

My creativity usually peaks around 4:00 p.m., and if needed, I can keep going until 2:00 a.m.. I am a night owl, so don’t wake me up!

Anyhow, I have some things to get done before I head out later, so let’s move onto today’s card which is inspired by an email newsletter.

I wasn’t in the mood to create another Thank You card chalk board drawing design today. I felt like I needed some color today, so I started looking at Pinterest for some colorful ideas and stumbled onto an email newsletter that caught my eye. I decided to recreate one of the dresses in the piece as a card along with combining the lettering in the layout of the newsletter. So I did.

Here’s my finished product.

Day 327: Aching to work on creative projects

I am home, in my pj’s waiting, and I’m aching to work on creative projects today.

My creative juices are running high right now.

I really want to finish making some new necklaces that I’ve been working on, but I need Satin ribbon. I bought Grosgrain ribbon, but it doesn’t stay tied because of the groves. Satin ribbons ties easily and is really pretty.

Here’s a picture of the necklace I made for myself just recently.

There are two more necklaces that I’m in the middle of working on right now, but I need ribbon in order to finish them.

But at least I have my knitting to fall back on, and two shadowboxes that I still need to work on and finish. I spent time months ago working on the first one, but put it aside because I couldn’t fit all the elements into the 11 x  14 shadowbox. So, I guess I can try working on my shadowboxes for a little while. Maybe I’ll be inspired with a layout that I like and works effectively.

Anyhow, let’s move onto the Thank You card.

Again, today’s card is inspired by a chalk board drawing. No surprise there.

I’m getting more comfortable designing chalk board style, but I don’t think it’s my favorite.

Anyway, here it is.
