Day 307: The fog is gone and I’m back to normal

I woke up today feeling great!

No fog or tiredness, and I took advantage of all the energy I had and got so many things accomplished today! 🙂

I was planning to have a Thank You card created earlier today, but I got sidetracked with a couple of projects. So, I managed to finish it at the end of the day when I should be in bed right now because I am tired.

So here it goes. Today’s card is inspired by a WordPress website and it’s kind of plain and simple, but I think makes a statement.

Good Night.

Day 297: The days are getting shorter

Today we had an Indian summer here all while the leaves were turning beautiful shades of red, orange, yellow and brown.

By the end of the week, the temperature around here will be half of what is was today, daylight savings gives us an extra hour of sleep but robs us of more sunshine, and I’ll be that much closer to finishing this design challenge.

I have exactly 65 days left! 🙂

It’s not that I haven’t had fun with this design challenge, but I’m ready to spend time doing something else. I’m just not sure what yet.

Anyhow, today’s card is inspired by another designer. The design reminded me of a mix between Pop Art and a newspaper printing.

Alright, I’m too tired to say anything else about my card so here it is.

Day 294: Get outside and see the world

I did not, I repeat, I did not forgot to create a card yesterday.

After nine hours with no food in my body, I became pale, sick and gotten a horrible headache. When I finally had a chance to eat something, I did feel a little better, but my body had gotten so tired that I had to cancel my evening plans. I was in bed at 7:30 p.m., and way too tired to design a card.

I woke up feeling much better, and the headache was gone. So, today I spent some time outside and experienced the beautiful warm weather and saw the trees covered in leaves changing colors. There were lots of trees that still had green leaves on them, but many trees had leaves that turned shades of red, orange and yellow. You should have seen some of trees with yellow leaves. They were gorgeous! That’s probably the best part about fall I enjoy. After that, it’s all downhill.

So, I have two cards to share with you today. The first is from yesterday and it’s inspired by branding, and today’s card is an abstract inspired by fall.

I hope you like them.

Day 274: Late and determined to finish

I’m late with a Thank You card for today, but I’m determined to finish this design challenge I started for myself at the beginning of the year.

So, today’s card is inspired by a branding identity and here it is.

Day 257: Push yourself when the energy runs low

Today I’m tired and I don’t feel like designing a card.

I’m just not in the mood.

So, here is today’s card because I don’t have anything else to say.

Day 253: Wake up with a new perspective

Sleep is a wonderful thing we all need, and it feels really good when we wake up and feel completely rested and refreshed.

I am by far NOT a morning person. I would much rather wake up every morning by at least 9:00 a.m., but I have places to be at that time so I am forced to get up earlier than I would like.

However, on the rare occasion when I wake up early, I sometimes feel refreshed and rested – ready for the day. It doesn’t always happen, but when it does, I try to capitalize on getting a lot accomplished.

Sleep is always helpful when you have things on your mind because you can go to bed feeling one way, and then wake up with a whole new perspective on how to deal with situations that are going on in your personal or professional life. Sleep is also another way for our bodies and minds to get the rest we definitely need. I would rather sleep in late than take a nap which just makes me more tired, but hey, I’ll take whatever sleep I can get when I can get it.

Anyhow, today’s card is inspired by shapes from old electronics and was immediately attracted to the images. I just took all the shapes and colors and put them together into one design.

Here it is.

Day 251: Remember the past, move forward to the future

Today marks the 13th anniversary of an event that changed many American lives.

It was 13 years ago on this day that the World Trade Centers located in Manhattan, New York were destroyed with two planes carrying flight crews, passengers, and hijackers that deliberately crashed each plane into the World Trade Center buildings.

Life in New York was turned upside down, and so was the rest of America.

Millions watched from television screens and computer monitors how life in this country changed within a matter of minutes. Ask any American where they were that day, and they will be able to recall every detail.

On that day, I was working as an Website Design intern at my college campus, Northern Kentucky University, and I was in the middle of designing a new layout for the website when one of my co-workers just caught what happened online. We quickly turned on the T.V. to the news and watched in shock the second plane crash directly into the second World Tower. I was stunned. Everything seemed so surreal. It was like I was in a dream, but it wasn’t a dream. Unfortunately, it was reality. A very sad reality that day because over 3,000 American lives were lost on planes, in the towers when they were struck, and from suicides by jumping out of the buildings to escape fire and further harm. Mothers pregnant with unborn children lost fathers they would never know except through pictures and family stories.

Life today 13 years was devastating, and many people still cannot forgive or forget.

So, today’s card has two inspirations: 1. I was initially inspired by a logos, and 2. September 11. The September 11 reference didn’t even factor in until after I put the card together and felt that it was missing something. Then I realized, after looking at my calendar, that it was September 11 and thought I should add some reference to it. So, I added two gray rectangles that represent the two World Trade Center towers that were lost on that day. I didn’t want to add any details of the disater because if someone who lost a family member in that tragedy saw the image, I didn’t want them to break down in tears. Then I realized that the two buildings looked like the number ’11’, and then added a number ‘9’ between the two very faintly so it could be seen without been seen. To represent the lives that were lost that day, I drew a simple black line.

To everyone that lost a loved one today when that horrible tragedy took place, my condolences to you on your loss and I hope you have found peace.
