Day 365: At last, how sweet it is

At last!

This is my final and last post of the 365 Days Thank You Card Challenge and I’m so happy it’s FINALLY over! 🙂

Don’t get me wrong, but I’ve enjoyed pushing myself as a designer for an entire year and it hasn’t been easy. I’ve never made myself do something like this, and it was hard at first, but got much easier as time went on. Some days I found my inspiration right away, while other days I was almost beating my head against the computer desk to come up with an idea.

You have to understand something about creative people.

There is no way to turn on creativity like a light switch. You can’t flip a switch and expect something creative to flow out. Creativity takes time and happens when you least expect it. It cannot be forced or rushed. There’s a process behind it. You have to go away from what you’re supposed to be doing, and find something else to occupy your time. When your mind isn’t thinking about the design, then the ideas will start to flow like a bowling ball rolling down the ally. First the ideas start out slow, and then the momentum picks up and things are whizzing right by you. Soon you have so many ideas coming out your head that you can’t stop it. It’s like when I volcano finally erupts. It just bursts into the air and there’s nothing that will stop it. The same when creative has finally kicked in.

However, now that I’m putting this design challenge to bed, I can focus my attention on other things in my life and hopefully, more client projects.

I love being a designer and creating something out of nothing for my clients. It’s a cool process to stare at a blank page on the computer only to find out later that you’ve created a finished product that either seen by billions of people online or something you can touch and feel with your hands. I wouldn’t trade what I do for anything else, but it’s what makes me, me!

As for the Thank You card designs I’ve created all year, some I love and others I wish I could have done something different.

Here are a few of my previous favorite cards:

Day 353: Winding down to the very end

With only nine days left in my Thank You card design challenge, I am ready for the finish line.

I have no idea what’s going to inspire me in the last days of this design challenge, so you’ll just have to wait and see.

Anyhow, here is today’s Thank You card inspired by a man’s watch. I was drawn to the color palate and graphic elements in the watch.

Good Night.

Day 352: The last double digit day

As the countdown to this design challenge comes to an end, I realize that today is the last day it will be in double digits.

We officially have 10 days left of 2014, and that means only 10 more days of Thank You cards.

I’ve gotten so used to designing these Thank You cards everyday, that I have no idea what’s going to happen at the first of the year when I don’t have to design one.

This design challenge has become a habit, a good one for that matter, but it’s a habit that started out rough and now has become ingrained me in.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see what next year brings.

Anyhow, today’s Thank You card is inspired by an infographic.

Good Night.

Day 347: I had the most amazing day

I had the most amazing day since I got to sleep in, cleaned my house, and didn’t have to go to work tonight!!! 🙂

I also hung out with a friend for six hours and we had a blast. We’re hanging out again tomorrow for another six more. Woo Hoo!!

So, now I need to put myself to sleep. Hopefully the wine will kick in a few minutes.

Anyhow, here is today’s Thank You card inspired by a scarf. I liked the colors in the scarf which is why I turned it into a card.

Good Night.

Day 346: When you’re not looking, you find everything

So, I stopped looking for black and white Satin ribbon to finish the necklaces I started a few weeks ago.

Today, I found exactly what I was looking for.

I needed to get some cleaning supplies at Dollar Tree because everything is a $1. I decided to walk up the craft aisle and see if they had any ribbon.

Jackpot!!!!! 🙂

I found black, white, and silver Satin ribbon – just what I needed! So, I plan to finish the necklaces this week and put them up for sale on my Etsy shop.

I’ll post them here when they are finished and photographed.

Anyhow, let’s move onto today’s Thank You card which is inspired by a living room rug and couch because of the color combination.

Here it is.

Day 334: Coming around full circle

I was looking at some beautiful photos of Australia on Pinterest and was captivated by the images.

The photography work of each image was amazing!

The images inspired me to go back to a card series that I started earlier in this design challenge, the retro Thank You cards of places around the world.

Today’s card is inspired by Poulnabrone Dolmen in Ireland. And yes, I did visit this historic site when I traveled to Ireland in college for a photography class.

I could sit and look at that rock formation for hours, no, days. No wait…weeks at a time.

Anyhow, here is my card with the “Thank You” in Gaelic.

Day 305: I still cannot stay awake

I slept 11 hours last night and was still tired when I got up today. I have been exhausted all day. This Daylight Savings time is killing me.

I have very little energy to do anything because I’m so tired. Never have I been so affected by Daylight Savings until this year.

So, this is going to be another boring post about today’s card which is inspired by a sweater and pants. I am just too tired to be more creative.

Day 301: I found my mojo in the rain

Today has been a fantastic day so far and I plan to continue it right up until I go to bed tonight. 🙂

It’s not even five o’clock yet and I have accomplished so much today that it feels really good. I have so much more that I want to get done today that I’m not stopping.

One of the things on my to do list today is create a Thank You card, and I have one done for today. It’s inspired by two things: 1. a design and 2. balloons.

In the design I saw on Pinterest, I was drawn to the color palate and layout of the triangle shapes, and then I got distracted by a smaller picture of black and white striped balloons. I have never seen black and white striped balloons in my life, and I got sucked into the photos. So, what did I do when I was caught between two designs? I turned them into one Thank You Card design.

Here is my funky creation. Guess you’ll have to stay tuned in and see what I come up with tomorrow.

Day 294: Get outside and see the world

I did not, I repeat, I did not forgot to create a card yesterday.

After nine hours with no food in my body, I became pale, sick and gotten a horrible headache. When I finally had a chance to eat something, I did feel a little better, but my body had gotten so tired that I had to cancel my evening plans. I was in bed at 7:30 p.m., and way too tired to design a card.

I woke up feeling much better, and the headache was gone. So, today I spent some time outside and experienced the beautiful warm weather and saw the trees covered in leaves changing colors. There were lots of trees that still had green leaves on them, but many trees had leaves that turned shades of red, orange and yellow. You should have seen some of trees with yellow leaves. They were gorgeous! That’s probably the best part about fall I enjoy. After that, it’s all downhill.

So, I have two cards to share with you today. The first is from yesterday and it’s inspired by branding, and today’s card is an abstract inspired by fall.

I hope you like them.

Day 288: Don’t get me started…

First, let me start off by saying that I did NOT forget to create a Thank You card yesterday.

I had the night off of work and made plans to hang out with a friend.

Afterwards, I had to get gas on the way home and go grocery shopping because I had no food in my house. So, at eleven o’clock at night, I’m strolling through the grocery store loading food into my cart. By the time I got home and put everything away, it was time for me to go to bed.

So, I didn’t design a card because I was tired. And I’m still tired today so I’m going to make this quick.

Here is yesterday’s card inspired by a cardigan and today’s is inspired by Taylor Swift’s outfit.

Good night.
