Day 365: At last, how sweet it is

At last!

This is my final and last post of the 365 Days Thank You Card Challenge and I’m so happy it’s FINALLY over! 🙂

Don’t get me wrong, but I’ve enjoyed pushing myself as a designer for an entire year and it hasn’t been easy. I’ve never made myself do something like this, and it was hard at first, but got much easier as time went on. Some days I found my inspiration right away, while other days I was almost beating my head against the computer desk to come up with an idea.

You have to understand something about creative people.

There is no way to turn on creativity like a light switch. You can’t flip a switch and expect something creative to flow out. Creativity takes time and happens when you least expect it. It cannot be forced or rushed. There’s a process behind it. You have to go away from what you’re supposed to be doing, and find something else to occupy your time. When your mind isn’t thinking about the design, then the ideas will start to flow like a bowling ball rolling down the ally. First the ideas start out slow, and then the momentum picks up and things are whizzing right by you. Soon you have so many ideas coming out your head that you can’t stop it. It’s like when I volcano finally erupts. It just bursts into the air and there’s nothing that will stop it. The same when creative has finally kicked in.

However, now that I’m putting this design challenge to bed, I can focus my attention on other things in my life and hopefully, more client projects.

I love being a designer and creating something out of nothing for my clients. It’s a cool process to stare at a blank page on the computer only to find out later that you’ve created a finished product that either seen by billions of people online or something you can touch and feel with your hands. I wouldn’t trade what I do for anything else, but it’s what makes me, me!

As for the Thank You card designs I’ve created all year, some I love and others I wish I could have done something different.

Here are a few of my previous favorite cards:

Day 361: It’s almost over and the end will be here

There is exactly one more day left in 2014, and the end of my design challenge.

Stick a fork in me, I’m done!

I’m ready to take on new challenges and projects.

It is time!

Anyhow, here is today’s Thank You card inspired by nothing. I’m just not in the mood to be inspired, so I just threw a card together.

Let me know what you think

Day 346: When you’re not looking, you find everything

So, I stopped looking for black and white Satin ribbon to finish the necklaces I started a few weeks ago.

Today, I found exactly what I was looking for.

I needed to get some cleaning supplies at Dollar Tree because everything is a $1. I decided to walk up the craft aisle and see if they had any ribbon.

Jackpot!!!!! 🙂

I found black, white, and silver Satin ribbon – just what I needed! So, I plan to finish the necklaces this week and put them up for sale on my Etsy shop.

I’ll post them here when they are finished and photographed.

Anyhow, let’s move onto today’s Thank You card which is inspired by a living room rug and couch because of the color combination.

Here it is.

Day 344: I’m running out of things to say

It’s very unusual, but I am running out of things to say for today’s post.

I am tired, I have to work later, and I’m ready for this year to be over with. Actually, I’m ready for winter to be over with and it hasn’t even started yet!

Okay, let’s just move onto today’s Thank You card which is inspired by Busk’s album cover. I have no idea what genre of music Busk is, nor did I look it online. I just like the fact that their album cover has big, bold colorful graphical shapes that created an interesting design. So, I recreated it into a Thank You card and put my own slight twist on it.

Day 342: Only 20 days until I’m done

Woo Hoo!!! 🙂

Only 20 days left with the design challenge and then I’m done. I am so excited I can’t wait because like I’ve said before, I’m ready for a new challenge and I want to work on other creative projects.

Anyhow, today’s Thank You card design is inspired by Pantone’s Spring 2014 collection. It was the layout and the colors that caught my eye. So, I recreated it into a Thank You card.

Day 323: Drained but still determined

I am so drained right now that I’m about to head to bed.

I woke up tired and had a headache all afternoon and evening, and I’ve taken aspirin to relieve it. However, it hasn’t helped.

Although I am drained, I am still determined to create a Thank You card which is inspired by a stop sign light.

I need sleep. Good Night.

Day 319: More new fonts to play with

Today I got four new fonts that I’m playing with in my Thank You card designs using the chalk board designs I found yesterday.

Except that I decided to add color instead of just using a black chalkboard and white lettering. In today’s Thank You card, I added pink, yellow, green and blue to see how the colors would look against the chalkboard background. Surprisingly, I like the addition of color.

Here is today’s design.

Day 306: The fog is starting to lift, slowly

Today I woke up tired, again, and was dragging through most of the morning and afternoon. I only started to slowly wake up when Kay got behind of the wheel and took charge!

I didn’t get car sick, but her driving woke me up, and I’m been feeling more awake than the past three days.

I think it also helps that I have a card done a lot earlier today than the past three days.

Anyhow, today’s card is inspired by a backdrop and poster. When I first looked at the backdrop, I thought it was a curtains! The pattern had this cool looking retro type shape design done in yellow and gray, which is why I mistook it for curtains. On top of the backdrop was the poster framed out in yellow, gray and white. Using everything as inspiration, I recreated it for today’s Thank You card design.

Let me know what you think.

Day 294: Get outside and see the world

I did not, I repeat, I did not forgot to create a card yesterday.

After nine hours with no food in my body, I became pale, sick and gotten a horrible headache. When I finally had a chance to eat something, I did feel a little better, but my body had gotten so tired that I had to cancel my evening plans. I was in bed at 7:30 p.m., and way too tired to design a card.

I woke up feeling much better, and the headache was gone. So, today I spent some time outside and experienced the beautiful warm weather and saw the trees covered in leaves changing colors. There were lots of trees that still had green leaves on them, but many trees had leaves that turned shades of red, orange and yellow. You should have seen some of trees with yellow leaves. They were gorgeous! That’s probably the best part about fall I enjoy. After that, it’s all downhill.

So, I have two cards to share with you today. The first is from yesterday and it’s inspired by branding, and today’s card is an abstract inspired by fall.

I hope you like them.

Day 285: I’m so tired that I need a nap

It’s a gray, gloomy and wet Wednesday which is the perfect day to take a nap on the couch.

As much as I would like to take a nap, I’m going to make myself stay awake so I can go to bed on time. If I nap, I wouldn’t be able to fall asleep and that’s not good.

So, while I still have some energy left right now, here is today’s card that is inspired by corporate branding. Now yellow isn’t a color choice I would use in someone’s branding because it’s so bright and cheerful that it has to be used for the right clientele

And I definitely wouldn’t use it as the main color because yellow is had to see on white.

Let me show you what I mean before I fall asleep at the computer.
